Tips for a Successful Year
Bookbags - Your child should bring a book bag every day. Please make sure that the book bag is large enough to fit their daily folder.
School Supplies - The second grade supply list is on the school website.
Snack - We have snack towards the end of each day. Please send finger foods in a baggy. It is helpful if you do not place your child's snack in their lunch box. Please do not send in candy as a snack. Also, please do not send in any juice boxes or soda. Students may bring a water bottle to school each day.
Lunch Money- Please place all lunch money in an envelope with your child's name. Milk may also be purchased separate from the school lunches. The cost of a lunch is $2.25 per day. Milk is $.40 per day. breakfast is $1.50 per day.
Lunch- You are welcome to come in and eat lunch with your child any day during the week. Our lunch time is from 11:15 to 11:40. You can meet us at the cafeteria door.
Ice cream and slushies - These are available for students to purchase during lunch. The cost is $1.00 each.
Daily folders- Every day your child will bring home a folder which will contain their behavior report. On Fridays it will contain graded work and other important information. Please review your child's work. The behavior report must be signed and returned in the folder every day along with any papers with the grade of a U. This folder is a good communication between home and school
Transportation changes - In order to ensure your child's safety, we will need a hand written and signed permission form from you when your child's regular form of transportation will be different. Please include your child's first and last name, their regular form of transportation, and their transportation change in your note. The office does not accept e-mail as a written note. Also, if they are riding home to a different stop, we need their friend's first and last name and their address. Please let me know if you have any questions.
Illness- Please keep your child home when he or she is sick. They will recover more quickly and not infect other children in the class. When your child returns from an absence, please send in a written excuse. IF YOU DO NOT SEND IN A NOTE, THE ABSENCE WILL BE MARKED AS UNEXCUSED. Please report any case of head lice immediately.
Grading Scale- The Gwinnett county grading schedule is as follows: 90-100 (A), 80-89(B), 74-79(C), 70-73(D), 0-69(U). If your child receives a grade of U on any assignment, the paper must by signed and returned on Monday. They may redo/correct the assignment at school, which will help your child with their understanding of the skill, and they can receive a new grade (74 or higher).
Conferences- I will be having two scheduled conferences (October and February) to discuss your child's progress. Anytime you have a question or concern, please e-mail me at d[email protected], write a note, or call the school to set up a conference. I will send a written response or call you back as soon as possible.
Early/Late Check-out - Arrival for school runs between 8:20 and 8:50, and for your child's benefit, please have him or her to school on time if their health permits. If your child is late, please stop by the office to sign them in. If you need to pick up your child early, please remember to check him or her out at the front office. Early check out will end at 3:00.
Book Orders- I usually send home book order forms a few times each year. Please do not feel obligated to purchae any books. If you do decide to order, please make separate checks for each book club order. Please do not send cash, the companies only accept checks.
Birthdays- You may provide a simple snack for your child's birthday. If you would like to bring in a snack, please let me know a day or two in advance so we can make arrangements if needed. Birthday invitations are to be sent from home and are not distributed in class unless the whole class is invited. This is done to prevent any hurt feelings. Please do not bring in cakes or cookie cakes unless they are precut. This will help make our lunch time run more smoothly.
Medication- No child is allowed to take medication in the classroom (with the exception of inhalers for asthmatic children). All medication should be brought in and registered at our clinic by the parents. The children should never bring in medication of any type.
